In Technology, The Last Level
Huzzah!
Tell me, dear readers: whaddaya think about this new-fangled eBook craze?
Me? I’m all for the digital revolution, being a geek at heart, but I’ll admit as readily as the critics that the current technology is in dire need of improvement. Amazon’s Kindle - and Barnes & Noble’s upcoming Nook - are wonderful devices, certainly, and well-worth the cash for an avid book fiend, but the common user might find the price of entry a little steep for just a bunch of books.
They might be right. But the release of a Kindle application for PC (Mac version coming soon!) caught my eye for a bit of functionality everyone can enjoy, even those who prefer the leather-bound libraries of old. Interested? Click the link and read on. Seriously, do it - this is hugely useful for everyone.

Watched the news recently? Cracked open a newspaper to scope out the world around you?
It’s a scary place, apparently. Drugs and war and violence and elephants — all very serious business, of course (maybe not the last bit), and all worth reporting, but all completely irrelevant for a budding study abroad-er. That’s a bold claim, sure, but not an unwarranted one. Don’t ask me for the psychological name of it, but there’s a theory that says exactly why: in a world of prime-time television and news reports showing us the absolute worst in society, we kinda sorta tend to think real life is the exact same way.
It’s not. Promise.

Or, y’know, don’t be afraid of anything.
That’s easier said than done, of course, but you know what? That’s a-okay! I’m here for you, ladies and gents, and I’ve come with the first part in that series I mentioned last week. You know, the time when I begged politely encouraged you to get off your butt and study abroad during college. You don’t have to say anything. I know you were all completely convinced.
So just for fun, then, let’s talk about languages. More specifically, the fact that you might not know the local one whenever you go to a new country, and how that sounds like a massive huge earth-shattering problem when it isn’t really that big of a deal. Promise.
